Training Update

Posted in Club, Events, General, Social, Training on October 13, 2011 by Bill Liddle

Well, we are already six sessions into the new year, so I’d thought a little update was in order.

The Christmas grading will be held in the first week of December as usual BUT there is a requirement to attend 16 session to become eligible to grade (kyu grades only).

Sounds daunting but it’s much easier this year to achieve the minimum as there are 31 training sessions this term alone – that’s almost 40% more than we managed to make available last year and they are all within 10 minutes walk of Founders too!

You will soon be able to order your training GI through the Committee so watch out for the announcement coming in the next few weeks and there is also the opportunity to buy your own training weapons for later in the year.

Seminar arrangements are underway and Budo Bash 12 is starting to take shape, confirmation of the date is expected soon as are the costs but please speak to the Committee about travel arrangements as we usually take a mini bus to Swindon.

Questions, nobody ever asks a question! How many of you know that we are actually studying 9 schools of which only 3 are ninjutsu based? Do you all know what the grading structure is or why girls wear red belts? Remember if you don’t ask then we won’t tell.

– Bill

Whether you’re looking at this website because you’re curious about Ninjutsu, or you loved us so much last year (and before) that you’re coming back again, welcome :-)

As ever there’s lots planned.

With regards to training, we’ve still got our usual slot: Tuesdays 8-10pm in the Sports Hall. We’re also keeping the Sunday afternoon session, 2-4pm in the Social Hall. Starting in September though, we will also have an extra session on Mondays 5-7pm in the Social Hall with Bill for those of you who said you’d be interested in doing more training each week.

We are planning the first seminar of this year for a Saturday in November. I’ll post the date as soon as it’s confirmed.

Socials are also near the top of our priorities list. After proving to still be a favourite, we have Laserquest lined up, as well as Bowling, Ice Skating, and the newly-investigated possibility of Paintballing!

Hope to see as many of you as possible at Freshers’ Fayre on Thursday 22nd & Friday 23rd September, or at the first training session on Tuesday 27th!

Jacquelynne :-)

Spring Term @ RHUL

Posted in Club, Events, Social, Training on March 6, 2011 by Alexandra

Hello everyone,

Well, it’s been a while! As you may have expected work caught up with us, but if you’ve been to the training sessions I certainly hope you haven’t felt left out of the loop. There are several important events coming up, warranting another post!

But first, a review:

  • Grading was superb, lots of people did really well – others now know they need to come along a little more regularly! A full break-down of grades can be found on Bill’s homepage (in the links)
  • We had a popular kit order, everyone should now have their stuff – if you don’t, make sure to drop us a line!
  • Budo Bash 11 was extremely well attended by us RHUL Ninjas and congratulations to Stef and Hazel, who made their black belts, and Brian, who made his 3rd Dan! Excellent! Thanks again to Hazel who drove everyone there and back on the first day, you’re a star!

And now, coming up:

There’s a really important committee meeting next week (8th) before training, the FB event can be found here (opens in a new window). If you’d like to play a more active role in the club next year – in the committee! – then you should definitely come along. If you have any questions about what it’s like to be on the committee send us an email beforehand, so we can prepare ourselves! The club committee elections will follow on the 22nd at training, so make sure you’re there!

NINJUTSU TRAINING SEMINAR

On the 20th, we have another campus seminar (FB event here) and then after that we’re all off to Colours Ball to have an awesome night out! Make sure to bring your cameras! If you’ve never done Ninjutsu, the seminar is a great place to start and get into the spirit! So please, feel free to come along!

That’s all from me for now, see you all soon!

Training Seminar this Sunday (Oct 17th)

Posted in Club, Events, Training on October 14, 2010 by Alexandra

Hello Ninjas and Ninjas-to-be,

I hope you’re excited about the Seminar this Sunday! For those of you who’ve somehow missed the information on this event, here’s the summary:

NINJUTSU TRAINING SEMINAR
SUNDAY the 17th of October
11am to 5pm, SU Main Hall

The seminar is basically an extended training session, giving us the opportunity to go into detail without being rushed by time constraints. This is a great opportunity to start Ninjutsu if you haven’t come along yet, as we’ll be working our way up from the basics.

It’s £15 for members and £20 for non-members, but if you decide to join, £5 will go towards your joining fee. If you’d like to pop in, make sure you have your NUS card and the green SAM Insurance sticker on the back of it. You can get your NUS card from the SU Reception and insurance from the Activities Office upstairs in the SU, opposite Bake N Bite.

If you haven’t let me know yet, drop me a line to tell me you’re coming – or simply show up on the day. You can also RSVP at our Facebook event.

If you can’t make it this Sunday but would like to start just come along on Tuesday (8-10pm, Sports Hall). It’s never too late to start, the entire committee and all graded people will make sure you catch up with everyone else and never feel out of step.

See you on Sunday!

Right guys and girls, it’s the start of a new term and there’s so much coming up you’ll definitely need a calendar handy to keep track of it! The best place to look is our events page on FB (linked from the side bar) and also the seminar page, where we’ve already listed an upcoming seminar you should all attend because it’ll be heaps of fun!

So here’s a quick list of dates to remember:

September
18th/19th – Flyering (for all you oldies)
22nd – Taster Day
23rd/24th – Freshers’ Fayre, club sign-up
28th – First training session in the Sports Hall from 8-10pm

October
9th – Martial Arts Day in the Sports Hall
17th – Ninjutsu Seminar in the SU Main Hall

We are planning some very fun socials too, so join the group on FB and watch this space!

Best,

Alexandra

Seminar, MA Day(s) & Freshers’ Fayre

Posted in Club, Events, Training on August 12, 2010 by Alexandra

Hi guys,

I have some awesome news. Firstly, we’ve already booked and confirmed the SU Main Hall for a seminar in October! The date is confirmed but it’ll only be announced closer to the date to make sure any last minute scheduling shenanigans can be adapted to. Secondly, a preliminary date for the first Martial Arts Day has also been set – it’s likely to be the at the beginning of October, which, being really soon after FF, will give us all the opportunity to get to know other clubs’ members and committees. It’s also our RAG event – all profit goes towards a good cause. All you need to take part is SAM (Student Activities Membership), i.e. the SU’s version of insurance. All MA clubs will be holding sessions :)

Finally, the dates for Freshers’ Fayre have been set, so keep your calendar clear to come and invite new people to join the experience! The dates will be updated on facebook :)

All the best,

Alexandra

Joint Ventures

Posted in General on June 14, 2010 by Alexandra

Hi guys,

it’s barely three days into the holidays and already we’ve got news for you. In light of the fact that we no longer have a dedicated Martial Arts (MA) Representative at the Student’s Union, we, the MA clubs of RHUL, have decided to start talking to each other more, organising some joint events both social and training-focused. The first step on this way is the new forum, the link for which you can find in the sidebar – or you can simply click here. Please feel free to register, introduce yourself and start posting. We’re only just starting this up, so forums may appear and disappear, designs may change etc., but don’t be scared – you’re already allowed to play ;) Because it’s still evolving, feel free to contact me if you have a suggestion to make or question to ask. At some point in the not-too-distant future there will be emails and facebook messages sent to everyone to advertise the new forum.

So, while most are settling down for a lazy summer between terms, we’re keeping up the hopefully excellent work – you’ll hear from us! And we’d love to hear from you.

All the best,

Alexandra

Summer break

Posted in General on June 9, 2010 by Alexandra

Well guys, it’s been a great year. Although there won’t be any training at RHUL over summer, there will still be other clubs going on, so if you’re looking for an opportunity to train, get in touch with either Anwen or me or even Bill directly and we’ll be able to point you in the right direction. There will also be some stuff happening over summer, some of which I mentioned after our last session. Most importantly, we’ll be getting together over the holidays to shoot some footage to show at Freshers’ Fayre. There’ll also be other FF stuff going on, like design and idea meetings – we’ll keep you up to date.

As always, if you’d like to join any mailing or texting lists, give me a shout. Make sure to join the facebook group if you haven’t yet.

Have a great summer!
